Dr. John Sharretts is the Director of the Division of Diabetes, Lipid Disorders and Obesity (DDLO) within the Office of New Drugs at the FDA. He joined the FDA in February 2015 and served as Lead Physician and Deputy Director of DDLO before assuming his current role. He attended the University of Virginia, earning a B.S. followed by an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering. He earned his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and completed residency in Internal Medicine at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, where he served as Chief Resident. He completed fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the National Institutes of Health Inter-Institute program in Bethesda, MD. Before joining FDA, Dr. Sharretts was Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
