Dr. John Sharretts is the Director of the Division of Diabetes, Lipid Disorders and Obesity (DDLO) in the Office of New Drugs. He joined the FDA in February 2015 as a Medical Officer. He served as a Lead Medical Officer and Deputy Director of DDLO before assuming his current role. He attended the University of Virginia, earning a B.S. majoring in Engineering Science and M.S. in Biomedical Engineering. He received his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and completed residency in Internal Medicine at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, where he served as Chief Resident. After practicing Internal Medicine as a hospitalist for seven years, he completed fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the National Institutes of Health Inter-Institute program in Bethesda, MD. Before joining FDA, Dr. Sharretts was Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
