Dr. Fried is Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed internal medicine and GI fellowship at the State University of New York at Syracuse and served as Medical Staff Fellow in Liver Diseases at the NIH between 1990-1993. Dr. Fried has been awarded continuous NIH extramural funding for more than 20 years as principal investigator on multiple NIH cooperative clinical trials. Dr. Fried and HCV-TARGET colleagues were awarded the Regulatory Science Excellence Award by the FDA in 2018 for their work regarding the real-world safety and effectiveness of HCV therapeutics. He is co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Target RWE, a company dedicated to developing insights from real-world data. Dr. Fried is the primary author or co-author on over 200 publications in the field of viral hepatitis. Dr. Fried served on the Governing Board of AASLD and was president of AASLD in 2019.
