Dr. Raymond Soccio, MD, PhD, is a medical officer who joined FDA’s Division of Diabetes, Lipid Disorders, and Obesity (DDLO) on the Lipids/Obesity Team in 2021. He completed internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, where, prior to joining FDA, he was a tenure-track assistant professor. He was principal investigator of an NIH-funded laboratory, directed an adipose tissue bank, and started a clinical practice focused on obesity management in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center. Dr. Soccio received his BA from Harvard, MD from Cornell, and PhD from Rockefeller University. He lives in Bethesda with his wife Leslie, a dermatologist at NIH, and their three kids. In his free time, Ray enjoys reading, sports, board games, hiking, and traveling.
