Scott S. Emerson, M.D., Ph.D.

Scott S. Emerson, M.D., Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus of Biostatistics at the University of Washington. The major focus of his statistical research is methods for the design, conduct, and analysis of clinical trials, including the use of sequential methods, both frequentist and Bayesian, in the monitoring and reporting of clinical trial results. He has collaborated as an investigator on NIH sponsored research in cardiovascular disease, liver disease, cancer, and emergency medicine, and was a member of industry sponsored Steering Committees of cardiovascular outcome trials in type 2 diabetes and obesity without diabetes. He has served on a number of advisory panels to the FDA and NIH, and remains active as a member of recent industry sponsored Data Safety Monitoring Boards (DSMBs) in cardiovascular disease, rheumatologic diseases, kidney disease, liver disease, cancer, inflammatory disease, and infectious disease.
