Dr. William E. Sanders, Jr. is a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist with extensive experience in academic medicine, regulatory science, and business. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine. Following a Fellowship in Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine, he trained in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at Duke University. Dr. Sanders was Director of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for 15 years, where he remains an adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine. He attained his M.B.A. from the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina and was a member of the Business Graduate School Honor Society. He has held executive positions in start-up companies, acting as Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer as well as a member of the Board of Directors. His legal training includes a J.D. from Georgetown Law Center as well as L.L.M with distinction in Global Health Law. Dr. Sanders previously served as a Medical Officer at the Food and Drug Administration in the Division of Cardiovascular Devices. His current position is Medical Officer at FDA/CDER in the Division of Cardiology and Nephrology.
